Old Website And Dodgy Battle Pictures

Messing around on PC at weekend and found an old version of my website, Peegores Page, still kicking around on the internet! It has quite a few battle reports and other stuff still on there. So I added a link to it on the Archived Battle Reports page. My last site didn't get updated for a while so the free space I was allocated got 'swallowed up', reclaimed, or whatever they do with free webspace.

It's - http://peegorespage.awardspace.com/index.html

Came as a pleasant surprise, as it means there's a big chunk of old games I don't have to reproduce on my blog now!

Oh, and Darryl sent some pictures of his last game.... I'm doing my best with them, but once an image has camera shake (cos a certain someone can't turn on the flash!), it's more than a bit difficult to correct!

What I have to deal with...

... and the best I can do.

More than current technology can handle....

If I salvage them, and Darryl writes a battle report, I'll post it ASAP.

Mick and I are playing a 2,500pt game on Thursday. hopefully I'll get something to post from that as well....

And yes, I know how the flash works on my camera.

Android Warhammer fantasy Army Builder

Found this last week while browsing the apps on my Android phone.

Its an Army Builder akin to, well, Armybuilder. It differs in the fact that it's more of an army calculator, whereby it allows selection of units, magic items, abilities etc. Most armies are covered ( only Daemons and Empire to be added )

What it DOESN'T do is show stats, item ability descriptions etc. Which in my opinion isn't a bad thing. As was mentioned by another member when I posted this on Warseer, it strikes a nice balance between giving enough information to create your army, whilst relying on you ( and rightly so ) to then make reference to the actual army book for the necessary stats and rules.

It's easy to allow Armybuilder to pull EVERYTHING together for you, only to find that there are more than a few errors in there.

The best reference for your army is the army book itself. And this app goes a long way to pushing you to do that, whilst sorting out the basic calculations for you.

It's a paid app ( £1.75 ), but well worth the money spent in my opinion

I like it. A lot.

First Archived Battle Report Finished

Just a quick post to say that yes, the first of the Archived Battle reports is done. A scenario involving High Elves defending against an alliance of Skaven and Orcs n Goblins.

There will be more in future, along with recent games.

In fact Darryl and Steve played last night. Daemons vs Orcs n Goblins, the first game in the mini campaign. Darryl has promised to send me pictures of the game and a report on E-mail, so I can get it posted up here ASAP!

Come on Dax.... get it done!!!

Started Adding Old Battle Reports

Created an Archived Battle Reports section. In here I'll add some of the more interesting games we played back in 7th edition.

We also decided to play a very 'mini' campaign. Nothing taxing, just Darryl and Steve play a game this week, 3000pts, then Mick and I play a game same points next week. Winner of Darryls game gets to chose deployment side in final 4 way game, winner of my game with Mick chooses who deploys first turn. Also in the final 4 way game we may use some magical terrain. So far we've avoided that complication and not bothered.

Oh, the sides are Steve and I vs Mick and Darryl. As yet, the armies we are taking are unannounced. Recently used armies have been -
Me - Skaven, Ogre Kingdoms
Mick - Lizardmen, Orcs and Goblins
Darryl - Beastmen, Dark Elves
Steve - Lizardmen, Chaos Warriors

But who knows what we'll bring! I'll add an About Us page, listing all the armies each player has soon.

Finished 20 Slaves

I know. 20 Slaves. Pah. But it's a start! Just another 40 to go and that's all my old metal Skaven finally getting put to some use since, what, the late 90's when I originally bought them! ( Just thought then... I was about 29 when I bought them... and am now 41 when they finally got painted. SCARY!!! )

I plan to replace my current clanrats, the 'monkey plastics', with the new ones, and use the old ones as slaves as well. That'll bump my total up to around 120 slaves eventually. Still not a huge amount by some peoples standards, but 2 units of 60 in time will provide a cracking speed bump.

I've had 20 of the new clanrats since they came out, but for some reason I did them with spears. Doh. Am planning to keep them in the box for when the Dreaded 13th  gets cast... well you do need a few spare rats kicking about for that scary-arsed spell!

So now I need to get onto E-bay and start buying-in 3 to 4 units of 20 hand weapon and shield clanrats.... god the prospect of all that painting makes me feel a little queasy...

Also currently working on the 20 plastic night runners at the same time as the slaves, that are to be used as Gutter Runners.

Good god.

Who'd have a horde army?

20 Slaves. Honest, they DO look better in 'real life'!

PS.... They're 99% finished. Still havent found my bloody static grass!

Painting.... really can't be arsed!

Like I mentioned previously, I've added a couple of pics. They're just of what I'm working on. A skaven slave ( metal from early/mid ninties ) of which I have about 60, and the new plastic Engineer from the Island of Blood box.

Point of this post is that I haven't put brush to model in months and months... and the reason? Well spare time is the biggest factor, and that a lot of my paints have dried up!

In the many years I've been gaming, me and the other lads have endeavoured to bring as fully-painted an army to the table as possible. It just looks good. And makes for better looking piccies for battle reports! Unfortunately if we spent the time we'd like to on painting the armies, then we'd probably get to use them in the next edition. So over time, and even more recently, me and the others have all taken to cutting a huge corner and using the either the wood-varnish or Army Painter method.

This is where models are painted in their respective base colours, albeit in a brighter tone than usual. Some highlights can be used on more important models. Then the whole lot is either 'dipped' ( as this method is more commonly known ) or brushed with wood varnish or Army Painter varnish. The overall effect is that the varnish acts as a opaque shading medium that not only adds contrast and shade to the model, but protects it as well.

From a gaming distance ( 2-4 ft away ) the models look very respectable. And the method is VERY fast. I will post some of of my more better results, such as a Lizardmen Engine of the Gods. If the other lads take pictures of theirs, I'll stick them up too. Oh, I use wood varnish by the way as does Darryl. Steve and Mick went with Army Painter.

So anyway, here are some examples of what I've been rattling off ( pun intended ) as fast as I can. Oh, and a picture of the dining table just to show the others I have been trying to get back in the swing of things!

The models have yet to be based properly. Can't find my static grass anywhere. But the results, for minimum effort, are fine as far as I'm concerned. Like I said earlier, these are JUST a light base colour and wash. No highlights, not even on the Engineer. Oh, and as you can see, a caffatiere of coffee is essential when painting blocks of skaven!

Skaven... trying to get them done.

Well, last Thursday I had the 'snip'. Yup, thought I'd just share that. And since then I've been mainly protecting myself from bumps and knocks to the ol' crown jewels... and have had time to ponder how my Skaven will 'look' in 8th ed.

I've read, like many, the various tacticas, lists on Warseer etc, and had a few games against Steve, Darryl and Mick. And keep coming back to the following for my standard 2000 to 2500 list ( Oh, I have not figured the Plague Furnace or Screaming Bell into my decision making as I don't own the furnace, and have the OLD Bell, which at the moment may get converted to a Plague Claw catapult ) -

1. Lots of core with ranks. The Anvil
2. Abomination. The Hammer
3. Warp Lightning Cannon(s). The softener
4. Grey Seer Magic. The Leveller.

I know it's all been said elsewhere, but here's my condensed thoughts.

There are a LOT of troop options in the Skaven book, and many, many gadgets and trinkets. The list varieties are potentially huge. BUT to successfully use the Skaven without going too 'fluffy' the above four, in my mind, are key to the foundation of a competitive force.

1. Lots of core with ranks. The Anvil

The main focus of Warhammer 8th is Infantry, steadfast, Ranks! And Skaven do this easily. And the way to this is Slaves and Clanrats. Points-wise a steal, especially slaves, but with the Strength in Numbers, and BSB 12" radius they are all going nowhere fast. Yup, they cant fight for toffee but will hold things up for a while.
So far, so good.

2. Abomination - The Hammer

I know there are a few contenders here. The Doomwheel being my close second choice. The Abomination is just more survivable, and can potentially dish out SOOOO much damage it's untrue. Rat Ogres are also an option but seem expensive compared to the A-Bomb survivability, and Plague Censer Bearers are just a shadow of their former self.

The Clanrats / Slaves will win nothing without the support of at least two of these options. My current thinking is 1 A-bomb, 1 Doomwheel. 2 A-bombs is probably OTT... just have to see what my fellow players dish-out over the next few months.

3. Warp Lightning Cannon - The Softener.

Like any good army, you could do with reducing the main enemy threats and putting pressure on from turn one. The Warp Lightning Cannon fits the bill from the start. Yup unreliable ( I know this all too well ), but the potential for damage from the opening turn is immense. Take 2, and the opponent could easily become manageable by the time they meet my battle line.

4. Grey Seer Magic - The Leveller.

As someone who up till 8th Ed shunned magic in favour of Troops and Shooting, I have bowed down to the fact that 8th Edition magic can be a game-turner more than ever before. I have been on the end of a Purple Sun and it was nasty. Both Steve and Mick field Slann with lore of life and all the trinkets that go with him... again, you just can't ignore it.

The Skaven magic list is, in my eyes, very good. The Spells range from the useful skitterleap to the deadly Dreaded 13th spell. And everything in-between has it's uses. One small portion of my tactics for my basic army will be Skitterleap. Dropping a cheapo engineer with the Brass Orb or Doomrocket into enemy territory will make the opponent baulk at the best of times. And yes, he may get wise to this fast and ensure this doesn't happen, but then I have drawn out dispel dice / scrolls to let rip with nastier spells like scorch.

Getting any of the spells off in the game can, like with the Warp Lightning Cannon, help level the playing field prior to combat being met.

So, ramblings of an old gamer. And no doubt many gamers more seasoned than I, and a few uppity gamer-geeks will be thinking 'what a load of bollocks'. But hey, it's how I see it.

Must mention also the potential number 5 on the list - Gutter runners! Scouts, March and Shoot 2x , Poisoned attacks. Against war machines and elite few-in-number troops they must surely be gold! I have put together ( using night runner plastics ) 3 teams of 7. They will be in the starting line-up for sure.

Will be posting some pics soon, under the title " Painting... cant be arsed! " or something like that.

My New Blog!!!

Eyup ( as we say here in Yorkshire! )

Welcome to Peegore's Page - The Blog!

Anyone reaching this site will possibly remember Peegore's Page, a site I ran for a while, bringing probably the best Warhammer Battle reports to the web (Yup, I do say so myself...! )

Well, a lot has happened since then, and it has left me with a lot less time to play Warhammer Fantasy, let alone wrestle with Dreamweaver and battle report creation. Sad really, but there you go.

What I would like to do in future is take piccies of any games I have, and at least try and blog the games when they happen, in a much more simple reporting style. I know Darryl ( one of my gaming buddies ) loves raking through past games, and doing this would at least make HIM happy!

Also will possibly just stick random stuff on here too, thoughts about any projects I ever get around to doing Warhammer-wise, or even posts regarding the latest holiday I've been on with the girlfriend ( Hi Nicola ) and the kids ( Wassup Tom, Luke ( mine ), Harry, Lewis ( hers )) !

Anyhow, we'll see how it goes.

Later.
